I will certainly look at your link.

FamilySearch isn't the only culprit, I have similar criticisms of other sites too, to a greater of lesser extent.

I'm looking forward to Rootstech next month, and not just to see so many friends again. It will be a great opportunity to have the movers and shakers from FamilySearch, Ancestry, Brightsolid and more exposed to the massed ranks of well-informed computer-totin' genealogists!Audrey Collinshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17109060807297085410noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4518232392780308567.post-29843316771846304652011-01-09T22:59:06.341+00:002011-01-09T22:59:06.341+00:00BIZARRE is a good word there, Audrey.

If genealogy is to be taken as a serious study of kinship and history, genealogy websites must get their citations up to snuff.

I appreciate your reporting this, as sometime FamilySearch will get the message.

My friend GeneJ Composer of the "They Came Before" blog, wrote about similar challenges with the US state of New Hampshire death records. As well as the extracted records of the IGI listed by batch number on Hugh Wallis's site, the additions of the British Isles Vital Records Index have been itemised by parish online at http://genoot.com/downloads/BVRI2/ (click on the numbers which hyperlink to PDF docs with the details). But I agree, it is all very lame - you should be able to identify this from the FS site returns themselves, and certainly to individual search results. The whole idea behind the new set up is just bizarre.

ChrisChris Patonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05073425769475523109noreply@blogger.com
